About Realidad e Historia

Realidad e Historia is an identity devoted to research, scholarly communication, and the circulation of knowledge, with a focus on the social sciences and the humanities. Its purpose is to sustain rigorous academic practices, editorial continuity, and public responsibility: to research, teach, disseminate, and publish, overcoming the exclusions preserved by traditionalist academies.

The name “Realidad e Historia” is associated with Ismael Cáceres-Correa and evokes an identity linked to social research; it should not be understood as a single centralized project, but rather as the guiding principle adopted by projects. In the civil sphere, the name Realidad e Historia is used by more than one legal entity, each with its own bylaws, legal personality, accounts, and tax obligations. For this reason, the activities, services, projects, or collaborations in which “Realidad e Historia” participates should be understood as aligned with this academic-cultural identity, but any legal linkage should be made only with the specific legal entity that convenes it.

At present, in Chile there are two companies that use this identity, without constituting a single legal entity or a common corporate structure:

  • Sociedad de Investigación Social y Difusión Cultural Realidad e Historia Limitada (RUT 77.059.792-7).
  • Sociedad de Estudios y Publicaciones Realidad e Historia SpA (RUT 78.213.981-9).

The “Sociedad de Investigación Social y Difusión Cultural Realidad e Historia Limitada”, founded in 2019 in the commune of Chiguayante (Concepción) and currently based in Yumbel (Biobío), focuses on research and experimental development in the social sciences and humanities from a critical, situated perspective. It designs, executes, and evaluates academic and social projects, collecting and processing quantitative and qualitative information and producing reports, studies, and diagnostics. It also promotes teaching and cultural dissemination through online courses, workshops, and seminars. To support these activities, it creates educational and cultural materials, provides advisory services and training, and collaborates with other entities within and outside the country. It is constituted as a limited liability company. Its legal trade name is “Realidad e Historia Ltda.”.

The “Sociedad de Estudios y Publicaciones Realidad e Historia SpA” was founded in 2025 in the commune of Concepción, which is its current seat. It is dedicated to the technical aspects that make scholarly publishing possible. It edits and publishes scientific journals, books, and other periodical or editorial publications, in print or digital formats, working with different media and technologies both for its own outputs and for other entities. It manages electronic publishing platforms, implements digital tools for the dissemination of knowledge, and develops or manages publishing imprints. Complementarily, it can support scholarly projects through advisory work, coordination, and dissemination of results—including reports, studies, diagnostics, and systematizations—and it promotes public instances of dissemination and collaboration with institutions and organizations. It is constituted as a joint-stock company. Its legal trade name is “Realidad e Historia SpA”.

These companies maintain areas of action defined by their respective corporate purposes and together reflect a shared orientation: to strengthen a culture of research and its responsible dissemination, taking care of both intellectual quality and the material conditions that allow knowledge to be produced and circulated with continuity.

In addition, Realidad e Historia has an international outlook: it seeks to engage and collaborate with academic communities outside Chile and to foster exchanges that enrich research and training around the study of societies and cultures, always with criteria of transparency, intellectual seriousness, and respect for people.

In sum, Realidad e Historia is an academic and cultural working identity—research, training, dissemination, and publishing—focused mainly on the social sciences and humanities. Its continuity rests on a commitment to methodological rigor, institutional clarity, and care for intellectual work, regardless of the legal form from which its initiatives are carried out at any given time.
